Xi extends congratulations to new president of Fiji

President Xi Jinping extended congratulations on Tuesday to Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on his election as president of Fiji.

In a congratulatory message, Xi noted that Fiji was the first Pacific island nation to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 49 years ago, the two countries have achieved substantial development in their bilateral relations, improved the well-being of the two peoples, and promoted peace, stability and development in the region and the world, he said.

The Chinese president said he highly values the development of China-Fiji relations and stands ready to work with Lalabalavu to promote the sustained, sound and steady development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in order to bring more benefits to the two peoples.

President congratulates Botswana leader on election

President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message on Tuesday to Duma Boko on his election as president of Botswana.

Noting that China and Botswana enjoy traditional friendship, Xi said in the message that bilateral relations have experienced sound momentum of development.

Cooperation between the two countries in areas such as infrastructure, clean energy, medical care and public health have made remarkable achievements, he added.

The Chinese president said that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Botswana relations and stands ready to work with Boko to push the bilateral strategic partnership to a higher level and bring more benefits to the people of the two countries.
