Top legislator stresses enhanced mutual trust in relations with Japan

China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Toshihiro Nikai, chairman of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' Union, in Beijing on Wednesday.

Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said the four political documents between China and Japan are the political and legal basis for their bilateral ties.

He emphasized that peace, friendship and cooperation are the only correct choices for the two countries.

He said that China is willing to work with Japan to continuously enhance mutual trust, deepen cooperation, properly handle differences and advance the bilateral relationship on the right track.

Noting that friendship among people boosts relations between two countries, Nikai said the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' Union is willing to contribute to the sound and stable development of Japan-China ties.

Top adviser urges implementing paired-up assistance for Xizang

China's top political adviser Wang Huning has urged continued efforts to implement the paired-up assistance program for the Xizang autonomous region by focusing on ensuring stability, facilitating development, protecting the eco-environment and strengthening the frontiers.

Speaking at a work conference on the program held in Lhasa on Tuesday, Wang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that remarkable achievements have been made over the past 30 years since the paired-up assistance for Xizang started in 1994.

He stressed the importance of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and firmly following a people-centered approach as the program keeps going forward.

The program should focus on promoting the region's high-quality development, ensuring the security of the country's borders in Xizang, improving people's well-being, and developing competitive industries, among others, Wang said. He also urged efforts to improve work related to sending officials and professionals to assist in the region's development.
