This year altogether 697 works were selected from 1,253 oil painting submissions from around China. "These paintings reflect the great achievements of Chinese modernization, many portraying historical moments, national heroes and landmark events, " said Fan Di'an, chairman of the Chinese Artists Association.

"Some paintings on the other hand, choose to feature the life and work of ordinary people, local and ethnic cultural elements, or the connection between human and nature."
