China, Trinidad and Tobago mark 50th anniversary of ties

President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulations on Thursday with President of Trinidad and Tobago Christine Kangaloo over the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Trinidad and Tobago is an important country in the Caribbean, and a comprehensive cooperative partner of China in the region, Xi said, adding that bilateral relations have maintained a sound momentum of development since the diplomatic ties were established.

Xi said that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Trinidad and Tobago relations, and stands ready to work with Kangaloo to take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to continue to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and take the China-Trinidad and Tobago comprehensive cooperative partnership to a higher level.

Kangaloo said that the establishment of the diplomatic ties was based on the shared wish of both sides to develop friendly relations and cooperation, and the two countries have always stuck to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations and constantly strengthened ties between the two peoples.

She expressed confidence that bilateral relations in the new era will continue to bring benefits to the two countries.

On the same day, Premier Li Qiang exchanged congratulations with Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Keith Rowley.

China attaches importance to its relations with Trinidad and Tobago and is ready to continuously expand and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with the Caribbean country, Li said.

Rowley said that Trinidad and Tobago firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is committed to working with China to promote peace and well-being for both peoples.

Beijing, Brussels agree to further deepen cooperation

Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang expressed on Wednesday the hope that Belgium will play a constructive role in deepening pragmatic cooperation between China and the European Union and managing economic and trade differences, during his talks in Brussels with Alexander De Croo, caretaker prime minister of Belgium.

China and Belgium share common interests in opposing protectionism and safeguarding free trade, said Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

He called for further consolidating political mutual trust, deepening cooperation in such areas as the economy, trade, science, technology and green initiatives, and strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges to foster greater development of China-Belgium ties and bring more benefits to the people of both countries.

De Croo said Belgium is willing to enhance communication and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields to promote the sustainable development of Belgium-China and EU-China relations.
