Voters poised to elect first female president
Mexican voters were expected to make history on Sunday by electing their first female president, a milestone in the country where gender-based violence and discrimination have long been rampant. Ruling party candidate Claudia Sheinbaum, a former Mexico City mayor and a scientist, had a lead of 17 percentage points over her main opposition rival Xochitl Galvez on the eve of the vote. The only man running, centrist Jorge Alvarez Maynez, was trailing far behind as a particularly violent campaign season marked by a string of candidate murders drew to an end.

Trump joins TikTok to woo young supporters
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has joined TikTok, the Chinese-owned app that he tried to ban as president, ahead of the US elections in November. The move "is in an effort to reach potential voters — especially younger ones", commented Politico, which first reported the news. Trump posted a launch video on his account on Saturday night that showed him greeting fans at an event in Newark, New Jersey. President Joe Biden's reelection campaign joined TikTok in February.
