Guizhou's former Party chief indicted for graft
Sun Zhigang, former secretary of the Communist Party of China's Guizhou Provincial Committee, has been indicted on charges of taking bribes, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Wednesday. Sun was also formerly a deputy head of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress. Following the National Commission of Supervision's investigations, a procuratorate in Tianjin filed Sun's case with the Second Intermediate People's Court of Tianjin, the SPP said in a statement. Prosecutors accused Sun of taking advantage of his various posts to seek undue profits for others and accepting an especially large amount of money and valuables in return.
Senior legislator from Hainan under probe
Liu Xingtai, deputy secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Hainan province, is under disciplinary and supervisory investigation, according to a statement from the top disciplinary watchdogs on Wednesday. Liu is being investigated by the Communist Party of China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision for allegedly committing serious violations of disciplines and laws.
China's youth jobless rate declines in April
China's youth unemployment rate fell slightly in April, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday. According to the NBS, the surveyed unemployment rate of youths from age 16 to 24 was 14.7 percent in April, down 0.6 percentage points from the previous month. Young people age 25 to 29 saw their unemployment rate stay around 7.1 percent, falling by 0.1 percentage points month-on-month. These calculations don't include students in schools or colleges, giving a clearer and more precise number for youth employment, the NBS said. The overall unemployment situation has also eased in recent months. The NBS said that the surveyed unemployment rate in urban areas saw a continuous decrease, remaining at around 5 percent in April, falling by 0.2 percentage points from the previous month.
Student killed in attack at school in Yunnan
A student died after being attacked by a schoolmate at a middle school in Yanjin county, Yunnan province, local public security authorities said on Wednesday. The incident took place at around 7:50 am on Tuesday at Miaoba Middle School in Miaoba township. The suspect used a fruit knife in the attack. The victim was sent to the hospital after being injured and died despite receiving medical treatment. Further investigation is underway.
