Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed deep condolences on Monday over the unfortunate death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash.

Wang made the remarks at a joint press conference with Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu in Astana.

He also extended sympathies to their families and the Iranian government and people.

Raisi and Abdollahian had made important contributions to promoting the development of China-Iran relations as well as regional friendly cooperation, Wang said.

After the incident, China has provided assistance to the search and rescue work and is willing to continue to offer all necessary support to Iran, he said.

He said he believes that the Iranian government and people have the capability to overcome this difficult moment.
