Shanghai launches information consumption festival to boost digital economy

A month-long information consumption festival was launched in Shanghai on Friday by the municipal government in an effort to accelerate developing new-quality productive forces and build cutting-edge digital industry clusters with international competitiveness, according to official sources. 

"Information consumption is a new consumption model in the digital economy era that focuses on interaction and experience between producers and consumers, featuring greater stability and durability," said Wu Lijian, deputy director of the standing committee of Shanghai's Huangpu district's people's congress during the opening ceremony of the festival.

"Shanghai has named the second batch of 40 outstanding metaverse scenes from 218 applications, and the applications cover sectors including industry, cultural tourism, education and medical care. They are hoped to further promote Shanghai's formation of new quality productive forces," said Sheng Xuefeng, president of the Shanghai Smart City Development Research Institute.

To promote digitization intelligence in Shanghai's manufacturing sector, the city has so far organized 11 matchmaking meetings among industrial enterprises and platform enterprises, and more than 10,000 enterprises have attended both online and offline. As of Friday, more than 1,000 enterprises have reached intended collaboration, according to the event organizers. 

As a role model of information consumption in China, Shanghai has seen its information consumption products diversified and high-end and innovative business models, and the city is offering local people with more innovative consumption experiences.
