Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal quits coalition government

KATHMANDU - Janata Samajbabi Party Nepal on Monday quit the coalition government, one week after the party was split.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav, leader of the party, and Deepak Karki, state minister for health and population from the party, tendered their resignations to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The party said in a statement that it quit the government because of the changed political context.

On May 6, Ashok Rai, federal council chair of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, registered a new Janata Samajbadi Party with seven lawmakers. This move left Yadav with only five lawmakers.

On Sunday, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) led by Dahal withdrew their support to the government in Madhesh Province led by Yadav's party.

Dahal formed a new coalition government in early March after breaking coalition with the Nepali Congress and rejoining hands with the CPN-UML.
