4 confirmed injured after man arrested over stabbing at Sydney church

SYDNEY -- A spokesperson from the New South Wales (NSW) Ambulance confirmed that four people were injured after a stabbing occurred at a church in Sydney on Monday night.

According to the spokesperson, a man in his 50s and another in his 30s have been taken to Liverpool Hospital, sustaining multiple stab wounds.

A man in his 20s was found with lacerations to his hand and a man in his 60s suffered arm injuries. Both received medical assistance at the scene without being sent to a hospital.

In an updated statement, the NSW Police Force said that officers remain at the scene after a stabbing took place at a church in Wakeley, a suburb located about 27 kilometers west of Sydney's central business district.

At about 7:10 pm local time (0910 GMT), police were called to the property on Welcome Street in Wakeley, following reports of several people having been stabbed.

A male has been arrested and currently remains in police custody.

The NSW Police Force confirmed that the injured individuals suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

"A large police response is underway and the public is urged to avoid the area. More information will be provided once it becomes available," the authority added.
