Since Sunday, heavy snow has affected over 10,000 people in Hunan province, according to a local official.

Tang Xichun, director of the Hunan emergency management office for low temperatures and icy rain and snow, said the heavy snow has also affected 4,800 hectares of crops.

The snow has created risks and challenges for traffic, power and oil supply and agricultural production in the province, he said.

According to local authorities, 29 counties have experienced heavy snowfall, with Nanyue district in Hengyang city recording 34 centimeters of snow.

Some 86,000 emergency management personnel have been mobilized to check the power supply and remove snow from roads.

The snowstorm has stopped in the province, but the temperature remains low. As of 5 pm on Tuesday, there has been no report of major disasters due to the heavy snow, and the supply of water, electricity, oil and gas remains stable, the authorities said.

The National Meteorological Center renewed a blue alert for low temperatures on Tuesday Morning.

According to the center, Guizhou, Hunan, and Jiangxi provinces are expected to see temperatures 5 C lower than average from Tuesday to Thursday.
