Local specialized industry in Laiwu, Shandong province, is ramping up production efforts to meet the impending Lunar New Year sales surge, backed by secure and efficient power supplies from local operators.

Laba garlic production has been a specialized industry in Laiwu, holding a top position in helping drive the local economy. Since January, Laiwu-based Shandong Manhing Food Co Ltd has entered its peak production period for garlic, in order to stock up sufficient inventory for the upcoming festival.

The vinegar-preserved Laba garlic is a traditional dish during the Laba Festival, which falls on the eighth day of December in the lunar calendar each year. The demand for Laba garlic hikes especially during the Chinese New Year period, because with its lush green hue and a tantalizing blend of sour and mild spice, the dish is considered as the best condiment for Jiaozi, Chinese dumplings.

Specializing in the niche condiment production sector, Manhing Food has taken center stage in the economic spectacle of Laba garlic, witnessing average daily sales of over 30,000 yuan ($4,189) during the Chinese New Year period every year.

The company now boasts an annual export volume of over 200,000 metric tons, including about 100,000 tons of garlic products which are shipped to over 80 countries and regions, Manhing Food said. With annual sales revenue standing at around 6 billion yuan, its specialized condiment business has become a powerful driver for the local economy.

The smooth business operations in Laiwu are a result of joint efforts. In order to ensure a secure and reliable power supply for local enterprises engaged in the upcoming order booms, technicians from State Grid Laiwu Power Supply Co have taken a series of proactive measures such as safety checks and user guidance.

The professionals have guided business users in optimizing power usage by switching to more scientific and efficient consumption models. They have also inspected the safe operation of crucial equipment to avoid any potential risks.

“The concerted effort serves as a catalyst for enterprises, propelling us toward a prosperous commencement of production and sales,” said a person in charge at Manhing Food.

Looking ahead, State Grid Laiwu Power Supply Co will intensify its efforts in safety inspections of key areas during Spring Festival, including high-speed rail stations, shopping malls, enterprise workshops and festive tourist attractions, said the power supplier.
