New intercity railway link makes progress
Beijing and Tianjin are accelerating the construction of the second intercity railway that will link them for the integration of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The first phase of the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway, linking Beijing with Tianjin's Binhai New Area, started operations in December 2022. It connects Baodi and Beichen districts of Tianjin. Construction under the second phase, connecting Dongli district and Binhai, started in November 2022. China Railway No 4 Engineering Group Co Ltd is partially building the second phase. It is using an enormous shield tunneling machine, 135 meters long and weighing some 2,800 metric tons, in its work.
Wind power project starts generation
The largest offshore wind power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with annual capacity of more than 3 billion kilowatt-hours, started power generation at full capacity on Tuesday, said its operator China General Nuclear Power Corp. Electricity generated by the project would be equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by about 1 million metric tons, and preventing the discharge of around 2.35 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, according to the company.
