GCL Energy Technology, a subsidiary of GCL Group, launched the first computing power center in Shanghai on Wednesday, as the prowess of artificial intelligence (AI) computing swiftly penetrates a myriad of sectors.

With an ambitious calculated power capacity of about 1000P (1P corresponds to around 1,000 trillion computations per second), the center is among the top in China. This is after the company launched China's first energy AI supercomputing center, with a calculated power capacity of 1000P, in Suzhou in August.

GCL Group Chairman Zhu Gongshan emphasized the need for large-scale model training in the energy sector on a digital foundation, with a spotlight on digital energy and new power systems.

Amid China's ambitious goal of carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, as well as the rapid development of new power system in China, energy and computing power are more than ever connected, he said.

The company has vowed to further come up with an integrated industry of electric power, energy storage and computing power to further facilitate the government's carbon emission goals.

GCL Energy Technology announced plans to construct China's maiden energy computing power center, alongside 15 such facilities worldwide.

The company cemented its position in sectors such as power generation, silicon carbide power devices, power end-user energy systems, virtual power plants, intelligent microgrids, and super-fast charging energy stations.

According to Huaxi Securities, computing power plays a key role for technology firms to initiate the second round of performance growth amid explosive expansion in deployments for large-scale data center facilities worldwide.
