Accelerated development of the global wind power industry is an objective necessity to achieve climate goals, according to a declaration on building a global community of wind power industry through cooperation and innovation.

The declaration was announced on Thursday at an international wind power technology and innovation conference in Shantou, a coastal city in eastern Guangdong province.

About 600 government, institutional, and business delegates from over 20 countries and regions gathered in Shantou, an important offshore wind power base in Guangdong, to discuss issues related to wind power technology and international cooperation in wind power technologies.

The Paris Climate Agreement, reached early in 2015, aims to keep the rise in mean global temperature below 2 C above pre-industrial levels and limit the temperature increase to 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels.

To achieve the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement, the cumulative installed capacity of wind power worldwide should reach at least 3.5 billion kilowatts by 2030, with China needing to surpass 1 billion kilowatts, the declaration said.

According to the declaration, countries must develop wind power industry clusters according to local conditions and form a globally interconnected and interrelated wind power industry system through cross-border flow.

Deepening international cooperation is critical to promoting the global development of the wind power industry, which is already highly globalized, with the industry's supply chains intertwined worldwide.

It said the international community must enhance mutual trust and create a fair and transparent market environment for the wind power industry.

Accelerating technological innovation is crucial to developing the global wind power industry, and the international industrial community should establish smooth communication channels to share the latest research achievements.

The declaration said that countries and regions should intensify the establishment of diversified and multi-level wind power education and training systems, establish a sound cross-border exchange mechanism for wind power talent, and encourage the free flow of wind power talent.
