Compensation ordered for 16 comfort women
A South Korean court on Thursday ordered Japan to compensate 16 women over forced sexual slavery during World War II, overturning a lower-court ruling that had dismissed the case. The ruling came after a lower court in 2021 said the women forced to serve Japanese troops — euphemistically labeled comfort women — were not entitled to compensation, citing "sovereign immunity" for Tokyo. It ordered that some 200 million won ($154,000) be paid to each of the complainants.

Embassy in India to be'permanently closed'
Afghanistan's embassy in India announced its "permanent closure" on Friday, more than two years after the Taliban returned to power in Kabul following the collapse of the Western-backed government. The Indian government does not recognize the Taliban government. In September, the ambassador and senior staff members left for Europe and the United States to seek asylum, and the embassy said it was suspending operations.
