One of the standards to define an accomplished artist in ancient China was that he should be versed in painting, calligraphy, poetry and seal engraving. The tradition is still being observed by modern artists and institutions, for example, the Hangzhou Academy of Chinese Painting, in Zhejiang's provincial capital.

Established in 2013, the institution is celebrating its 10th anniversary and its devotion to nourishing consummate artists with an ongoing exhibition at the art center of Art News of China in Beijing.

The exhibition has brought together the works, including poetic compositions, paintings, calligraphic pieces and seal impressions, by its dozen resident artists. It offers a glimpse of their accumulations over time, and how the academy has lived up to preserve and develop Chinese cultural traditions. The exhibition is through to Nov 26.
