Despite all the challenges, US companies still see China as a very important market, a very strategic market, and a market that US firms hope to continue to be and want to succeed in (China) for the long term, said Eric Zheng, president of American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

"We are in China for China and we're not going away."

Zheng said given the size of the market and the growth of this market, even 5 percent of growth in China will recreate another Switzerland in terms of GDP, because of the big base.

"So for us, 121 trillion yuan worth of economy, that's a huge market nobody else can replace," said Zheng.

More than $500 million worth of orders were reached during the 6th China International Import Expo that concluded on Friday, with more US firms possibly participating in the event in the coming year.

For the first time, the United States Department of Agriculture and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai jointly set up the US food and agriculture pavilion at the world's first import-themed national exhibition this year. A total of 17 exhibitors showcased their products at the pavilion, covering meat, almonds, cheeses, wines, and health supplements.
