Former Guangdong legislator indicted

Li Chunsheng, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, has been indicted on charges of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Tuesday. Li's case has been filed by the People's Procuratorate of Chenzhou, Hunan province, to the city's intermediate court, following the conclusion of investigations by the National Commission of Supervision. Prosecutors accused Li of taking advantage of his various posts to seek benefits for others and accepting large sums of money and valuables in return.

Remote sensing satellite launched

China on Tuesday launched a remote sensing satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province. A Long March 2D carrier rocket carrying the satellite Yaogan-39 lifted off at 4:03 am. The Long March 2D rocket was developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. Known for its reliability and adaptability, the Long March 2D is a two-stage liquid carrier rocket. It can carry out launch missions for single and series satellites in series or parallel layouts. It is capable of lifting 1.3-metric-ton payloads to sun-synchronous circular orbits 700 kilometers above Earth, according to its developer.

Courts handle 25m cases in first 9 months

More than 25 million cases were received by Chinese courts from January to September, up 9.1 percent year-on-year, according to data released by the Supreme People's Court on Tuesday. During the period, courts nationwide concluded 1.23 million criminal cases, an 11.3 percent year-on-year increase, while over 14 million civil and commercial disputes were concluded, a 6.1 percent year-on-year rise, the data showed. In the handling of criminal cases, courts across the country focused more on fighting crimes concerning people's livelihoods, such as those relating to drug and food safety, the top court said. The number of civil lawsuits caused by traffic accidents involving delivery people grew rapidly over the period, it added.
