Chinese tech company Oppo unveiled its latest foldable smartphone Find N3 series on Thursday, in its latest push to expand its overseas presence and crack the high-end market to compete with Samsung.

The move came after Oppo's Find Flip series phones became the No 1 model among clamshell foldable smartphones in China in the first six months of this year, and the No 2 model in Europe, according to data from the market research company Counterpoint.

Pete Lau, senior vice-president and chief product officer of Oppo, said in an interview after the launch that "Find N3 is designed to target 'new' business people who are better educated and adapt to mobile devices as productivity tools."

"Our goal is to create the best. A big-screened foldable should always be a pleasure to use, so Find N3 has two clear, bright, comfortable, rich-looking displays; neither screen is a compromise," Lau said.

The big screen is also to help consumers better multitask with applications in smartphones. Oppo also breaks the barriers for file transfer between Android, Apple and Windows devices for the first time, enabling quick access to over 40 exclusive document formats such as Keynote, Pages, Numbers, CAD, Markdown and more.

Besides, Oppo is also working to bring high-quality imaging to foldable smartphones. "We believe that premium smartphones should have incredible cameras. So, the Find N3 can capture life's precious moments without missing the fine details," Lau added.

It is the first foldable to feature a pro-grade imaging system. Its advanced cameras, new stacked pixel technology, and Hasselblad tuning and modes combine with ColorOS 13.2's next-generation capabilities for PC-level productivity in consumers' palms, Oppo said.

According to Lau, Oppo is investing big into a self-developed AI large language model. "AI-generated content is the most exciting technological innovation I have seen in the mobile phone industry for many years. In the future, it will bring revolutionary and disruptive changes to our mobile life experience. This is a long-term and determined development direction. But in the short term, we should be cautiously optimistic. In the long term, it is worth investing, Oppo has made a lot of investment in this area," Lau said.

According to him, the company will unveil more details about the company's self-developed large language model next month during its developer conference.
