Kenyan President William Ruto is in Beijing to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which began on Tuesday.

In an interview with China Daily in Nairobi on Oct 13, Ruto shared his views on what Kenya had achieved in the past decade under the Belt and Road Initiative.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The president said Kenya's deep and historic relationship with China was cultivated by their leaders and people over the last six decades, which is proof that the two countries retain strong bilateral ties.

"We share a bond of friendship that goes beyond the ordinary structures of government. It exists deep down in the people-to-people relationships in areas like the private sector, business, culture and a shared humanity," Ruto said.

With the theme of the third Belt and Road Forum being "High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity", Ruto said it will focus on how to leverage on what has been achieved in order to build a better tomorrow without leaving anybody behind.
