'Tremendous advantage'

"Being able to communicate with my Chinese colleagues in their mother tongue has been a tremendous advantage," Kapetanios said.

"It creates a closer bond and allows for more efficient collaboration. Speaking Chinese has given me a unique perspective and a deeper appreciation for their culture, even though I haven't always admitted it in front of my Greek colleagues," he added with a smile.

Reflecting on his journey, Kapetanios encourages others to embrace the challenge of learning the Chinese language, recognizing its potential for opening doors and creating opportunities in both personal and professional spheres, as China and Greece strengthen their trade and business ties.

"Learning a new language, especially Chinese, is an invaluable experience. It not only expands the horizons but also personally helps me connect with people on a deeper level," he said. "If someone asks me for career advice, I would tell them to learn a new language, and for me, that language would undoubtedly be Chinese."

Kapetanios views the increased exchanges between China and Europe as a positive development.

Highlighting Greece's strategic geographical position, he said the country has significant potential to act as a conduit for people, trade, and commerce. This, in turn, would contribute to the strengthening of ties between China and Europe.
