Where once most Americans saved money for a middle-class life with a home, car, children and pets, many are now saving for emergencies rather than a home or car.
According to a recent survey by GOBankingRates, 44 percent of people prioritize saving for their emergency fund to protect against unforeseen financial challenges over saving for retirement, cars, homes or other expenses.
