Deputy Shanxi Party chief investigated
Shang Liguang, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China's Shanxi Provincial Committee, is suspected of seriously violating Party discipline and laws and is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation, said the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, China's top anti-graft watchdogs, on Tuesday. The 59-year-old worked in Hebei from 1981 to June 2017.Over the course of his career, he served as mayor of Qinhuangdao and Party chief of Cangzhou in the province. In June 2017, he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee, as well as head of the committee's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs.
Transport experts take part in exchange
Nearly 30 transportation experts from 20 countries gathered in Beijing on Tuesday to attend the opening ceremony of an exchange program to promote global transportation sustainable development. The program, sponsored by the Ministry of Transport and organized by the China International Center for Sustainable Transportation Innovation and Knowledge, will last for four weeks. A total of 26 participants from various countries, including transportation officials and scholars, will join discussions and field research.
National defense campaign kicks off
China is launching a monthlong campaign in September to promote national defense education among the general public. The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee issued a guideline recently, requiring relevant departments to organize various types of activities nationwide, including lectures on revolutionary history at the grassroots level, national defense education on university campuses, and open-day events at military barracks.
Former legislator of Xiamen jailed for life
Chen Jiadong, former senior legislator in Xiamen, Fujian province, was given a life sentence by a court on Tuesday for multiple corruption-related crimes. Chen, ex-director of the standing committee of the Xiamen People's Congress, was sentenced to life imprisonment for bribery, according to the Nanchang Intermediate People's Court. It revealed that from 2000 to 2022, Chen took advantage of his various work positions to provide aid for individuals and departments in matters such as approving the right to use forest land and project contracting. In return, he received money and other assets worth more than 94.15 million yuan ($12.8 million).
