Guangxi Pilot FTZ boosts foreign trade

As of July, the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone recorded a total of 858 billion yuan ($118 billion) in imports and exports since its establishment in August 2019, said local authorities. Foreign trade handled by the pilot FTZ amounted to 37.4 percent of the total recorded by South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region during the period, according to a news conference. The pilot FTZ also posted an accumulated actual use of foreign capital exceeding $1.47 billion, accounting for 36.8 percent of Guangxi's total.

Lottery ticket sales surge 55.9% in July

China's lottery ticket sales surged 55.9 percent year-on-year to about 48.91 billion yuan ($6.74 billion) in July, data from the Ministry of Finance showed. Lottery ticket sales supporting the welfare system stood at approximately 17.87 billion yuan in July, an increase of 44.3 percent or 5.49 billion yuan compared to a year earlier, according to data. Lottery ticket sales supporting the sports industry increased by 63.5 percent year-on-year to 31.04 billion yuan, the ministry said. In the first seven months of 2023, China's lottery ticket sales reached 322.8 billion yuan, up 51.2 percent year-on-year.

Xi'an to host Euro-Asia Economic Forum

The 2023 Euro-Asia Economic Forum will be held in Xi'an, the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, from Sept 22 to Sept 24. The event will focus on regional cooperation, new growth engines and future development across the Eurasian landmass, said the organizers. An important economic cooperation mechanism under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the forum, which was inaugurated in 2005, is held every two years.

Meitu's H1 revenue increases by 29.8%

Chinese internet company Meitu generated 1.26 billion yuan ($173.5 million) in revenue in the first half of 2023, an increase of 29.8 percent year-on-year, with an adjusted net profit of 151 million yuan in the first six months, up 320.4 percent year-on-year, according to the company's financial report. The surge was mainly the result of subscription revenues related to photo, video and design products powered by AI-generated content, with the number of VIP users reaching a record high of 7.2 million and the total number of monthly active users reaching 247 million by June 30.
