Leadership deliberates on training of officials

A key meeting of the Communist Party of China emphasized on Thursday the need to build up the governance capacity of officials across the board and nurture officials who have strong political expertise, meet the requirements of the new era and are capable of leading the socialist modernization drive.
The meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee — the Party's core leadership — deliberated on a set of regulations and a five-year plan concerning the education and training of officials. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.
The meeting's participants highlighted that the education and training of officials is a pioneering, foundational and strategic endeavor in building a high-caliber team of officials, saying that work in this regard is irreplaceable in advancing the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and Party building.
It is important to use the Party's innovative theories to build up unity and strengthen the Party's foundations, ensure that political training can span the whole career of officials and guide officials to establish a correct view with regard to power, political performance and their careers, according to a meeting summary.
Officials' capacity for political judgment, understanding and implementation must be enhanced continuously, the summary said.
The meeting said it is necessary for the training and education of officials to better meet organizational, job-related and individual needs, and to continue to optimize methods of training in order to make it more systematic, targeted and effective.
The capacity of officials in promoting high-quality development, serving the people, and preventing and defusing risks must be bolstered, the summary said.
The participants underlined the role of Party schools as the main channel and platforms for the training of officials, saying that stringent political criteria must be upheld.
