1,000 boats featured in beauty pageant at onset of fishing season

More than 1,000 fishing boats have participated in a beauty pageant at the Huangqi national fishing port in Lianjiang county of Fujian province as the off season for fishing comes to an end.

Local fishermen painted their boats into vibrant colors and patterns to prevent rusting during the off season and to show pride for local fishing traditions.

The painting mainly employs the colors of red, yellow and green, all prosperous colors. Many boats also featured written wishes for good luck and fortune.

Boat painting is an important part of local tradition, conveying the fishermen's wishes for safety and a bountiful harvest.
