Export controls on gallium, germanium 'cautious and moderate'

China's implementation of export controls is cautious and moderate, aiming to safeguard national security and fulfill international obligations more effectively, said the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
China started to impose export restrictions on industrial products and material containing gallium and germanium from August 1, 2023. The Ministry of Commerce has been receiving license applications from some companies regarding the export of gallium and germanium related items, said Shu Jueting, the ministry's spokeswoman.
Currently, these applications are being reviewed in accordance with laws and regulations. Decisions on whether to grant licenses will be made after comprehensive consideration of factors such as national security and interests, international obligations, ultimate users and end uses, said Shu.
The commerce ministry will adjust and refine the export control list for dual-use items in accordance with the provisions of export control laws in a timely manner, she added.
