Midea aims to become air management solution provider

Unveiling a new smart air solution for an entire house is an important step for Midea Air Conditioning, a business section of home appliances giant Midea Group, to transform from a heating ventilation and air conditioning manufacturer to a professional air management solution provider, according to the company.
"We are shifting from selling products to providing solutions. The smart air solution, based on decades of hardware technology iteration, is an important strategic measure to meet users' demand," said Zhang Hao, research and development director of Midea's home central air conditioning.
Zhang said the customized air solution will cover the whole house with intelligent technologies and good air, which originate from the company's major air systems including ultra-centralized air conditioning, central humidity control, air source heating pump, fresh air for a full house and health systems.
A hardware facility, namely air cube, can automatically recognize indoor air quality, ensuring household users to learn about various air indicators such as NO2 and PM2.5.
"The smart air solution for an entire house also features an active intelligent decision-making system with self-perception, self-learning and self-regulation, helping adjust temperature, humidity, and comfortable wind for users, and maintaining the air quality," said Zhang during a press conference early this month.
According to Zhang, the company will continue to launch more tailor-made solution modules in the future to meet household users' demand for good air.
Midea, based in Foshan of Guangdong province, has launched various air conditioning products in recent years, with functions expanding from refrigeration and heating to new air, self-cleaning and air purification.
As of 2022, Midea's market share of retail sales of fresh air and comfort air conditioning products was 8.8 percent and 13.4 percent, respectively, as per data from the company.
The company has also announced a wildlife plan with Chongqing Zoo, promising to customize exclusive smart air for giant panda twins in the zoo.
