Due to the project, Chonghu has gradually become a better habitat for wildlife. The number of Aythya baeri, a critically endangered species of bird, found in the wetland rose from four in 2014 to more than 150 in 2020.

Now Chonghu is a national wetland park and a Ramsar site, a title reserved for wetlands that have international importance under the Ramsar convention on Wetlands.
