Quest for technological supremacy fuels marque
As FAW Group celebrated its 70th anniversary in Changchun, Jilin province, in mid-July, the automaker hosted an exhibition that highlighted its innovation-driven development.
"We have broken through a number of bottleneck technologies, launched a batch of competitive products and made solid steps in science and technology self-reliance," said Qiu Xiandong, president of FAW Group.
FAW has achieved significant progress with its "All in" new energy strategy through its FMEs super architecture, which was showcased at the exhibition.
According to the automaker, the FMEs have helped to make major breakthroughs and achievements in 115 key technological areas across eight major technology domains of FAW.
The architecture empowers three platforms: HME for electric vehicles, HIS for intelligent vehicles, and HMP for hybrid vehicles. Among them, the HME electric platform consists of four major systems, which are the high-energy safety battery, high-efficiency electric drive, high-power intelligent energy supplementation and intelligent driving safety chassis.
With advanced manufacturing and significant cost advantages, it can meet the research, development, manufacturing and user demands of all Hongqi new energy models.
The exhibition also featured the latest innovative technological achievements, such as new intelligent materials, intelligent manufacturing and the Hongqi Universe.
The new generation of self-developed vehicles, represented by the all-new Hongqi L5 limousine, Hongqi E001 sedan and Bestune T90 plug-in hybrid electric SUV, were showcased at the event too.
As the premium brand of FAW, Hongqi has been dedicated to advancements in areas of low-temperature battery cells, power electronics, intelligent architecture, vehicle-to-cloud cooperation, steer-by-wire technology and advanced safety features.
To promote efficient and high-quality technological innovation, FAW has made efforts in high-end and intelligent manufacturing. The automaker has established five major production manufacturing bases across the country, one of which is the Hongqi Prosperous Factory in Changchun city.
This factory enables flexible production across multiple platforms and achieves a fully digitized and highly flexible intelligent manufacturing process. It represents the global standards in digital manufacturing and "Industry 4.0", injecting momentum into China's high-end and intelligent manufacturing industries.
The latest achievement of FAW is the official opening of the FAW Technology Innovation Base on July 14. Serving as a frontier for the new journey of FAW, the innovation base is a brand-new R&D facility to break through core technologies in the new energy and intelligent connected vehicle sectors.
The base's construction started in March 2020 and was put into operation in June. Covering a total area of 260,000 square meters, it has the capacity to accommodate around 3,000 researchers simultaneously working on cutting-edge projects.
This new base is a testament to FAW's commitment to advancing new energy and intelligent connected technologies in the automotive industry, the automaker said.
FAW's efforts have led to continuous double-digit growth in intellectual property applications.
In 2022, the automaker achieved a milestone with 75 breakthroughs in key core technologies, 44 applied software copyrights, 8,387 issued patents and 4,210 authorized patents.
These figures solidify FAW's position as the industry leader in both patent publications and authorizations.
