Gold consumption, output both higher
China's gold output and consumption saw stable growth in the first half, industry data showed on Tuesday. The country mined nearly 178.6 metric tons of gold during the period, an increase of 2.24 percent year-on-year, said the China Gold Association. In the January-June period, gold consumption in China reached 554.88 tons, surging 16.37 percent year-on-year, the association said.
Water diversion project on track
A massive water diversion project between the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers is helping affected residents along the route in a laudable manner. The project, which launched construction on Dec 29, 2016, with a total input of 91.27 billion yuan ($12.7 billion), covers 12 of Anhui's 16 prefectural-level cities, and two of Henan's 17 prefectural-level cities, benefiting some 50 million people. In Anhui's Hefei, the local government is building homes in the Xiaomiao section in Shushan district to accommodate 8,920 families. The project is being built by China Railway No 4 Engineering Group Co Ltd.
