Lhasa, Tibet, is now included in the list of China's top 100 cities for nighttime economic prosperity.

The 2023 China nighttime economic development report was released recently by the Juliang Yinqing City Research Institute, a sub-branch professional city research institute of the Beijing-based marketing service platform Ocean Engine.

The nighttime economy refers to business activities that take place between 6 pm and 6 am in the service sector. Business services include tertiary industries such as leisure, tourism, shopping, fitness, culture and catering.

According to the index of China's top 100 cities for nighttime economic prosperity, the glory winners can be divided into three echelons. The first echelon includes 10 cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Hangzhou and Suzhou. The second echelon has 30 cities, including Changsha, Wuhan, Nanjing, Kunming and Sanya. The third echelon includes 60 cities, with tourist cities selected, such as Lhasa, Dali, Lijiang and Guilin.

According to the commerce bureau of Lhasa, the city has recognized the shopping centers of Wanda, Zangyoutancheng and Gongdelintianjie as the city's model zones for nighttime economy in 2022.

Wu Haiyu, an official from the bureau, said the city will use its nighttime economy as a medium and new space to drive consumption. The city has been working to build more fashionable and integrated urban life aesthetics and cutting-edge fashion consumption.

"As an international tourism city featuring plateau and ethnic characteristics, the development of Lhasa's nighttime economy will develop more possibilities, and the city's nighttime economy will see further growth."
