VP, Kerry discuss climate cooperation
Vice-President Han Zheng stressed on Wednesday Beijing's readiness to find the greatest common ground with Washington on the basis of respecting core concerns and conducting adequate dialogue and exchanges in ensuring the implementation of the Paris Agreement and responding to climate change. During a meeting in Beijing with John Kerry, the United States special presidential envoy for climate, Han underlined the response to climate change as an important aspect of bilateral cooperation while calling on both sides to create a sound atmosphere for exchanges and cooperation over various sectors. Kerry highlighted the joint efforts made by the world's two largest economies to cooperate on climate issues, saying that Washington is willing to conduct high-level cooperation with China to work toward positive outcomes in the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai.
Shenzhou XVI crew ready for spacewalk
The Shenzhou XVI mission crew will soon carry out their first spacewalk, according to the China Manned Space Agency. The agency said that the Shenzhou XVI astronauts — commander Major General Jing Haipeng, Colonel Zhu Yangzhu, the spaceflight engineer in the team, and Gui Haichao, the mission's science payloads specialist — had worked 51 days as of Wednesday. They are ready for their first spacewalk, which they will undertake in the coming days. The Shenzhou XVI trio arrived at the space station on May 30 to take over the orbital outpost from their Shenzhou XV peers who had been there for six months.
