4 dead, 6 injured after minibus overturns
Four people were killed and six were injured after a car flipped in Hunyuan county in Datong city, Shanxi province, on Wednesday morning, local authorities said. A minibus carrying 18 people overturned near Erling village in Hunyuan at around 8 am. Despite rescue efforts, four people were killed in the accident. The six who were injured were sent to a hospital in the county for treatment and are no longer in critical condition. The driver of the minibus has been taken into police custody, and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
Subsidies raised for public health services
China has raised its per capita government subsidies for basic public health services by 5 yuan to 89 yuan ($12.40) this year. The additional funds will go toward supporting local governments to enhance public health services, especially for seniors and children, according to a statement released by the National Health Commission in collaboration with three other departments. Local authorities must accurately determine the population of permanent residents age 65 and older in their respective areas and establish records documenting their health conditions.
Party chief of Shanghai congress under probe
Dong Yunhu, Party chief and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, is suspected of seriously violating Party discipline and the nation's laws and is currently undergoing investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, the CCDI announced on Wednesday. Dong, 60, is a native of Xianju, Zhejiang province. He spent much of his career working in publicity departments before he was transferred to the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress earlier this year.
