PM to quit politics; remains caretaker
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha announced on Tuesday his retirement from politics, and will remain as prime minister until the formation of a new government. "From now on I want to quit politics, resigning as a member of the United Thai Nation Party," his party said in a statement. Prayut was elected as prime minister in 2019.Parliament on Thursday is due to select a new prime minister.

Violence kills 142 in Manipur in two months
The violence in India's northeastern Manipur state has killed 142 people over the past two months, the local government said on Monday. The information was presented by Manipur's chief secretary to India's Supreme Court in a report mentioning a total of 142 people have been killed in the violence-hit state. It said 5,000 incidents of arson have taken place in the state since May.

6 die in tourist helicopter crash
Six people — five Mexican tourists and a Nepali pilot — were killed after their helicopter crashed on Tuesday in a mountain district in eastern Nepal, authorities said. The Manang Air chopper lost contact with the ground 15 minutes after it took off, according to Chief District Officer Basant Bhattarai. Security forces had been deployed for the search.
