KABUL -- The acting Prime Minister of the Afghan caretaker government Mawlawi Abdul Kabir said Saturday that his country respected the role of the United Nations and was seeking positive interaction with countries around the world.

In a meeting with the UN Special Coordinator for Afghanistan Feridun Sinirlioglu, Kabir said that Afghanistan is seeking a positive interaction with the outside world on the basis of mutual respect, and assured that no one would be allowed to use Afghanistan's territory against others.

Sinirlioglu said that he had been tasked of providing a report on Afghanistan along with independent assessment by the UN on how relations between Afghanistan and the international community could be strengthened.

Afghanistan plays an important role in the implementation of major regional projects, so stability and internal security in the country is important, the UN official noted.

In a meeting with Sinirlioglu on Saturday, Governor of Afghanistan's central bank Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) Mullah Hedayatullah Badri had asked the UN for cooperation on freeing billions of US dollars in the country's foreign exchange assets, which were frozen by the United States after the Taliban took over power in August 2021.
