SUDAN

Fighting resumes after truce expires

Clashes and artillery fire were reported in parts of Sudan's capital early on Sunday soon after the end of a 24-hour cease-fire that had brought a brief lull in eight weeks of fighting between rival military factions. Witnesses said fighting resumed soon after the cease-fire expired at 6 am in the north of Omdurman, one of three adjoining cities, along with Khartoum and Bahri, that make up the capital around the confluence of the River Nile. Residents said there had been artillery fire in the Sharq el-Nil area on the eastern outskirts of the capital, while blasts and clashes were reported in Khartoum.

IRAN

Existence of 'undeclared' nuclear material denied

Iran denied on Saturday the existence of any "undeclared" nuclear material in the country, in response to questions raised in a recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, about its nuclear activities, the official news agency IRNA reported. A report by the IAEA mentioned the "presence of uranium particles of anthropogenic origin identified by the agency at three undeclared locations". Responding to the report, Iran's permanent mission to the UN offices said that questioning the nature of Iran's "peaceful" nuclear program has no justification.
