Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates called for greater cooperation among humanity to address global challenges, while highlighting that China will be able to make unique contributions by sharing its technologies and its lessons.

Gates said in a speech via video link at a meeting of the 2023 Zhongguancun Forum on Friday that although human society has dealt with issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, regional conflicts and other challenges, he remains optimistic about the future and believes that humanity will once again be on the right track.

China has an incredible mix of expertise and experience, as well as investment in scientific and technological innovation, Gates said, adding that, "China will be able to make unique contributions to sharing its technologies and its lessons."

According to Gates, who is also the co-chair and trustee of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, China is already playing an important role in addressing a string of challenges.

Gates said with innovative cooperation, it is possible to help more people lift themselves out of poverty and lead a better life in the future. Gates also stated there is a need to prepare in case of future pandemics, and the world can respond more effectively by integrating drug and vaccine research and development methods.

China's relevant resources and production capacity will help achieve such goals, Gates added.
