Didi-Aion JV to make unmanned vehicles

The autonomous driving unit of Didi Global Inc signed a deal with GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co Ltd, a major Chinese NEV maker, to set up a joint venture to mass-produce unmanned vehicles for ride-hailing services. This is the first such attempt in China to promote large-scale production of autonomous new energy vehicles or NEVs through a joint venture between autonomous driving companies and vehicle enterprises, Didi said. The move is part of a broader deal Didi's autonomous driving unit inked with Aion to deepen their partnership. The first mass-produced model under the joint venture will be connected to Didi's ride-railing network in 2025, which is expected to promote the accelerated commercialization of Level 4 autonomous driving vehicles.

The regulation will further fine-tune stipulations for the following areas: market access and exit; free flow of goods and factors; factors affecting production and operation costs; and factors affecting production and business behavior. It will also further optimize handling of exceptions to provide guidance in a focused manner and establish a fair competition review system for major policy measures at the local level on the basis of self-review.
