President sends condolences over heavy rains in DR Congo
President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence on Wednesday to Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi over the disastrous heavy rains in the African country.
Noting that recent strong rainstorms have caused heavy casualties and property losses in the DRC, Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, mourned the dead and extended sincere sympathy to the bereaved families, the injured and the affected people.
According to media reports, at least 411 people have died and at least 5,525 people were still missing after intense flooding and landslides hit the DRC's South Kivu province last week. It was the deadliest natural disaster in the country's recent history.
It is believed that the DRC will surely overcome the difficulties and rebuild its homeland, Xi said in his message.
