EV charging piles up 29% in first quarter
New charging piles for electric vehicles in China saw stable expansion in the first quarter of the year, industry data showed. Some 632,000 charging piles were added in the January-March period, rising nearly 29 percent year-on-year, said the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance. By the end of March, China had more than 5.84 million charging piles, surging almost 88 percent year-on-year. During the first quarter, retail sales of new energy vehicles jumped 22 percent year-on-year to 1.31 million units.
Steel aqueduct wins award from IBC
A steel aqueduct for the water diversion project between the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, built by China Railway No 4 Engineering Group Co Ltd, has won a prestigious medal awarded by the United States-based International Bridge Conference. The steel aqueduct on the Pihe River Main Canal for the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project, with a total length of 350 meters and a main span of 110 meters, won the Arthur G. Hayden Medal and was dubbed the world's longest-span steel-structure aqueduct used for water diversion and navigation. It was put into trial operation on Dec 30. Medals offered by the IBC are considered the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in the bridge industry.
CR24-built road stretch opens
A new section of Tianfu Avenue, part of an extension project at the north end of the major avenue that starts in Chengdu, was completed in Deyang, Sichuan province, and opened to the public on Monday. China Railway 24th Bureau Group Corp (CR24), the builder of the new section, said it spans 6,060 meters between Changjiang Road and its intersection with Baocheng Line. The new section is expected to push ahead the integrated development of the provincial capital and neighboring Deyang by facilitating road transport between the two cities, said CR24, a unit of China Railway Construction Corp.
