Survivor of Nanjing Massacre passes away
Zheng Jinyang, a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre, died on Tuesday evening at the age of 95. Her death reduced the total number of registered survivors to 42, according to the Memorial Hall for the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. The Nanjing Massacre took place when Japanese troops captured the then-Chinese capital on Dec 13, 1937. Over six weeks, they killed approximately 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers in one of the most barbaric episodes of World War II. During the massacre, five of Zheng's relatives were brutally killed by Japanese soldiers and her ancestral home was burned down. The great pain of losing her loved ones lingered throughout her life. "Decades have passed, but I have never forgotten," Zheng once said. In 2014, China's top legislature designated Dec 13 as the national memorial day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.

Police in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region have busted an interprovincial drug-trafficking ring, nabbing 80 suspects, said the local public security bureau on Wednesday. Police in Ningcheng county of Chifeng uncovered the drug trafficking ring after they started to trace the drugs consumed by a local drug addict at the beginning of last year. Following months of investigation, police determined that members of the ring were scattered throughout Inner Mongolia and Liaoning and Hubei provinces. From May to November 2022, police arrested 80 suspects involved in the case and seized 651 grams of methamphetamine. Police also obtained evidence of key members involved in money laundering, the bureau added. Further investigation into the case is underway.
