Japan's disposal plan draws opposition
The Fijian government reaffirmed on Wednesday its opposition to Japan's plan to discharge nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the Pacific Ocean, saying that the region is not a dumping ground for countries like Japan to release its nuclear waste. While moving a motion regarding this in parliament on Wednesday, Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica said that the Pacific Ocean should not be seen as an easy and convenient dumping ground for unwanted and dangerous materials.

Killing of executive shocks tech world
A high-profile tech executive was a victim of a fatal stabbing in San Francisco in the United States that has shocked many in Silicon Valley. Bob Lee, 43, was the chief product officer at San Francisco-based cryptocurrency startup Mobile-Coin. Lee was "apparently stabbed to death", San Francisco police said. Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, SpaceX and owner of Twitter, voiced his frustration about "violent crimes" in San Francisco.

Ex-PM Berlusconi has leukemia, source says
Silvio Berlusconi, who was Italian prime minister four times, has been diagnosed with leukemia, a source close to the matter said on Thursday, a day after he was admitted to intensive care with breathing problems. The 86-year-old, whose media empire has made him a billionaire, is being treated in a cardiac unit of Milan's San Raffaele hospital. Later, a minister from his party said that Berlusconi was "stable" after a night in intensive care, adding that he couldn't confirm Italian media reports that he had been diagnosed with leukemia.
