Concept document holds promise of lasting peace

Only by abiding by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, only by respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, only by taking seriously the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and only by being committed to peacefully resolving differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation will lasting world peace be achieved and international security be attained.

This is the crux of the Global Security Initiative Concept Paper China's Foreign Ministry released on Tuesday.

As long as countries seek political spheres of influence and absolute superiority over other countries, it will be very difficult for the international community to maintain long-lasting peace and sustainable global security.

The bid to reinforce hegemony, unilateralism and a Cold War mentality are the source of almost all military conflicts or wars in recent decades.

The invasion of Iraq by the United States in 2003, the civil war in Syria with the intervention of major military powers, which has lasted for years, the current military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which shows no sign of ending after lasting for a year, are all related to the world's sole superpower's behind-the-scenes maneuvering.

Even the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic would have fared much better had some countries not politicized it, preventing concerted global endeavors to pull the world through the hard times.

In proposing the Global Security Initiative, China has been calling on countries to adapt to the profoundly changing international landscape in the spirit of solidarity, and address the complex and intertwined security challenges with a win-win mindset.

China's Global Security Initiative Concept aims to eliminate the breeding ground for international conflicts, improve global security governance, and encourage joint global efforts to bring more stability and certainty to a volatile and changing era.

China believes that security will only be firmly established and sustainable when it is underpinned by morality, justice and the right ideas.

China's Global Security Initiative Concept reminds the world that the Cold War mentality, unilateralism, bloc confrontation and hegemonism are against the spirit of the UN Charter and run counter to global endeavors for lasting world peace.

Instead, it promotes bilateral and multilateral cooperation among as many countries and international organizations as to create conditions for lasting world peace and shared security.
