ICE industry prioritizes green development
Green and low-carbon development has become widely recognized across the world, and the internal combustion engine industry more than ever needs breakthroughs in core technology, disruptive advances in cutting-edge technology and integrated innovation with global peers, said business leaders at the 11th International Conference of ICE Reliability Technology.
Tan Xuguang, director of the State Key Laboratory of Engine and Powertrain System, said in a speech that the laboratory will embrace an open and shared approach, work hand-in-hand with global colleagues to accelerate key technology and contribute more to promote the high-quality development of the global internal combustion engine and power equipment industry.
Internal combustion engines are the dominant power source for transportation, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, fishing vessels and national defense equipment. Their reliability directly affects the performance and service life of supporting equipment. Improving the efficiency of internal combustion engines is also one of the ways China can achieve its carbon reduction goals.
In 2015, Weichai undertook the construction of the country's only national key laboratory and set up the State Key Laboratory of Engine Reliability.
The laboratory has taken it upon itself to tackle the key technologies in the field of internal combustion engine reliability, to carry out technical research in collaboration with the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain and to promote technological innovation.
It has achieved fruitful results in key areas such as basic theory research, reliability research on whole machines and key components and reliability prediction and evaluation.
Since 2020, Weichai has released three global commercial diesel engines with a thermal efficiency of 50.23, 51.09 and 52.28 percent respectively, setting a new bench mark for global diesel engine thermal efficiency.
In November 2022, the State Key Laboratory of Engine and Powertrain System led by Weichai obtained approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The conference, organized by the laboratory, was held in Jinan, Shandong province. As an annual academic exchange event in the global industry, it was attended by over 1,000 experts, scholars, and industry representatives from nearly 200 domestic and foreign research institutions, universities, and well-known enterprises.
