A work of collective efforts, the blue water rabbit was made from abandoned cardboard and bedsheets, responding to the competition’s value of environmental sustainability. On the blue water rabbit, Mexican hummingbirds, Chinese peonies, and fish were painted, all carrying auspicious meanings. Another winner is the goddess rabbit, whose design fused the Aztec goddess of the moon and the Chinese legend of Chang’e flying to the moon.

Other creative works, which also attracted great admiration, included a warrior rabbit, a rabbit with a lion head from the Chinese lion dance, a rabbit of the Aztec sun god and two shinny hippie rabbits.

The competition was peppered with performances of Chinese folk dance, kungfu and taichi. In addition, an exhibition of paintings and calligraphy works by Qiu Xiaoqi, former Chinese ambassador to Mexico, and sales of Chinese snacks and handicrafts were held at El Jardin, the square where the award ceremony was held.
