Former ambassador named assistant FM
Nong Rong, the former Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, has been appointed assistant minister of foreign affairs, the State Council announced on Tuesday. Nong, 56, was appointed Chinese ambassador to Pakistan in 2020.He held a farewell reception on Jan 16 in Islamabad announcing his departure of the post. Nong, who holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear physics and a master's degree in business administration, spent the majority of his career in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. He became the mayor of Guigang in 2015 and was named head of the regional commission of ethnic and religious affairs in 2019.
Man arrested after nail gun assault on doctor
Prosecutors in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, said on Tuesday that they had approved the arrest of a man suspected of shooting a doctor with a modified nail gun at a local hospital for the crime of intentional homicide. The Shenyang People's Procuratorate disclosed the arrest on its WeChat account, saying that the approval was made after their investigation. It added that the doctor, surnamed Bai, is still receiving medical treatment. At 9:53 am on Feb 2, the suspect, surnamed Ma, 66, attacked and injured Bai at the Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ma was quickly captured by the Huanggu branch of the Shenyang Public Security Bureau. Bai is deputy director of the hospital's spleen and stomach department and once treated a family member of Ma, a medical worker of the hospital told Health Times, a health-related news outlet.
