In the Liaohe River Delta, located in Panjin, Liaoning province, the reed harvest has begun.

Cutting withered reeds in winter helps a new reed to sprout in the spring. The harvested reeds are mainly used for making paper and for interior decoration materials.

Panjin city includes about 80,000 hectares of reeds, which grow in the coastal wetland at the junction of the Liaohe River and the Bohai Sea. The wetland, an important ecological system in northeastern Asia is home to hundreds of animals and plants.

In 2022, Panjin was named an international wetland city, along with six other cities. In the past decade, China has created and restored more than 800,000 hectares of wetlands, according to the latest survey by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
