A hospital in Beijing has stepped up efforts to improve reception capacity to ensure the treatment of critically ill patients due to the increase of COVID-19 infectious patients.

As the number of patients has increased in recent days, many patients with underlying diseases or elderly patients have become critically ill. To meet the needs of patients, multiple measures have been taken simultaneously to mobilize the whole hospital's resources to treat patients, said Guo Shubin, deputy head of Affiliated Beijing Chaoyang Hospital of Capital Medical University.

Taking the receipted patients as an example, the total number of fever patients that went to the emergency department was 1,763, several times the usual number of patients, according to Guo.

The hospital has also set different zones to expand the overall reception capacity, make maximum efforts to receive and treat critical patients, relieve the pressure of emergency and fever clinics, and speed up the turnover of severe cases, he said.
